What is immortality? It means you never Die. Which part of you Never Dies? The body or Soul/Consciousness? From the moment life evolved on earth, the concept of evolution is dependent on the fact that parents die and the children inherit the good traits from the parents and become superior to them.
With the current advancement of technologies, it may be possible one day. We are already very close to making Bodies, which can be made to look like us, i.e., robots. However, one thing we still need to figure out, how to map/store the consciousness in an external memory bank or say inside a robot brain. The movie Chappie (2015) explores the same idea.
Although advancement in Technologies may one day enable us to become immortal, I wonder if it will be good or bad. It will be Good, if we are able to preserve the brightest minds of Humanities, Our Scientists, Mathematicians, Physicists, etc. The movie Transcendence explores such an idea. Even though the protagonist wants to do only good for the world, the rest of the world is afraid of his immortality. But what about the bad/selfish people who also get to live forever.
What will it mean for the Human Evolution, i.e., the next generation is always better/smarter than the previous one. Will it impact the advancement of the evolving human civilization in a good or bad way.
Some Really Nice Movies I have watched exploring the concept of immortality are:
- Chappie (2015)
- Transcendence (2014)
- Lucy (2014)
